--- Personal Quotes ---
"Settling down is far, far away. I’ve a commitment phobia, I’m scared to commit. I like my space; I like
to do my own thing. I love my me-time, which not many girls can understand."
"I don’t have a ‘type’ (of a girl). As long as it’s someone who doesn’t have an agenda. I am looking for
an honest relationship where we are together only because we enjoy each other’s company. There are
interesting girls in all walks of life."
"There’s a word for Live-in relationships – marriage. Why not just get married? I don’t understand the
concept of live-in relationships."
"I'm obsessive about playing some sport. I get restless if I don't play anything. Any sport you play, all
your anger, passion, love; all emotions get an outlet.
"On my recent trip to Dubai, when we went clubbing, one girl told me 'You're really hot'. At first I didn't
hear and bent down to ask her what she said. She repeated and moved her hand on my butt. I felt a
little used, but also flattered."
"Wherever I go, whatever change I get, I put it in a fish bowl. So I have different coins from different
countries. When it fills up, I'll get another bowl."
"In Delhi, when I went to audition for an ad campaign of a suiting brand, I was rejected for being a little
chubby."
"My pet Labrador is my only companion in Mumbai as I live alone here."
"I would not be the first person to initiate a conversation. Basically, I am reserved. I take time to open
up to people, depends on the person as well. But at times I open up and hit it off in the first meeting
itself while at times I take five-six meetings to get things going."
"My romantic evening will be intimate - probably two people and not in a very crowded place. I would
like to go to a secluded place somewhere, hopefully on a beach."
"I have had my share of heartbreaks...Though I'm single and my career has taken prescedence, I'm
ready to mingle now."
"I’ve grown up watching Mr Bachchan. (Smiles) I’ve got long arms like him. I loved the jackets and
trench coats he sported in Yash Chopra’s films."
"I think not one, but all of them are competition, we’re all pitching for the same film. Suddenly there is
a big pool of young actors that’s come in but I don’t think any one of us can do a particular thing to get
a film. I don’t think it works like that. I think there is competition; I can’t particularly pick Varun or
anybody else because we are all pitching for the same roles."
"When I had just about got a job and went out on a date, this girl was upset that I had come to meet
her in shorts and chappals and in a rickshaw. I didn’t have a car at that time. I had comments coming
my way, ‘If you buy a car, which one will it be?’ I was startled. She too came from another city and
was a colleague, a model struggling to be an actor. I was judged because I was travelling in a rickshaw,
which wouldn’t have happened had I stayed back in the comfort of Delhi."
"I was actually told by my stylist, that I am like champagne – sparkling, bubbly and not so over-the-top;
it gives you a high much later. I thought that was a compliment."
"I would love to do a film with Kajol, I don’t know if I can romance her, but it would be an interesting
script, something like a younger boy-older woman story."
"I don't know how true the casting couch is. I find it hard to believe that someone would put their money
where their penis is."
"Female adulation is flattering. It’s exciting. I feel lucky at times. They appreciate and accept me for
what I am doing. I guess this is only the beginning and this will become bigger and better and shouldn’t
stop!"
"I am very critical about my work. For example singing and dancing is something that I found very
difficult to adapt to. In my life I never danced on filmy steps and now I had to be a part of this
huge-n-lavish musical extravaganza setup. It is no more just about what you sing but also about how you
sing and dance."
"I call myself an outsider because in Mumbai I don’t have anything to fall back on. So if things don’t
work in my favour, I will have to pack up and come back to Delhi. That’s why I want to make concerted
efforts to carve a space for myself in Bollywood."
"Katrina Kaif is very attractive; she is a cool girl to chat up with. She has the correct European styling.
I’m really interested in doing a film with Katrina Kaif as she is a great performer. If something really
comes up, I would like to take it up."
"I have some really nice memories of Delhi. Going swimming, roaming around in Defence Colony,
cycling in its beautiful, wide lanes and enjoying good food."
"I grew up in Defense Colony in South Delhi and my father Sunil Malhotra was in the Merchant Navy.
We used to travel with him during summer vacations. I was 10 at the time and probably the only kid in
school who travelled outside India. We’d get imported chocolates and Coca cola cans. It was a luxury.
We’d shop for shoes, as we didn’t have brands available back home. I used to look forward to those
two months. We travelled to many continents and that gave me cultural exposure. My mother Brinda
Malhotra is a housewife. She used to be a big fan of Yash Chopra. That was my initial impression of
films. While sailing we’d watch films on the VCR. She’d watch Pakistani plays. Umar Sharif was her
avourite actor. So Yash Chopra films and Umar Shariff’s plays were huge influences. We’d watch
serious Pakistani plays too like Dhoop Kinaare, even though we didn’t understand them. My father
wasn’t much of a movie buff. He’d urge me to play sports. I was chubby eating all that food on the
ship! When I was 13, my father tok a job off sailing. (Laughs) That’s when my life got boring because
I had to figure out what to do during summer vacations. No more Coca cola, imported chocolates and
stuff. I started playing basketball, tennis and rugby. After 13, I became leaner, thanks to my father
quitting the Merchant Navy."
"Nobody puts their money and faith into you unless there is some promise that you show. Having said
that, I was showing that promise to other filmmakers as well! It was Karan (Johar) who had the guts
to put his money on me. He has an option of taking anyone but still he took Varun, Alia and me. His
vision is very different. By roping me in, he wasn't looking at a temporary measure of making one
film and moving back to his comfort zone. Moreover, he doesn't think small. I remember that for a
scene when a Louis Vuitton bag was required, he made sure to get an original instead of something
fake. That when it was being used just as a prop!"
"I think the first birthday I had in college was the most unforgettable one. I had served alcohol to my
friends on my terrace. I was eighteen then. I had called girls from different colleges (laughs). It was
amazing. All my friends were invited. Parents knew about it but I was pretending to be a grown up.
I don't drink but that time we only had Bacardi and a few other spirits. It was a memorable night."
"Eventually, looks die away and what matters is the conversation. So she should be a good talker.
Maybe, I have grown up in the last two years. Earlier, I used to be like ‘Okay, the chic is hot!’ It’s
tough to describe my dream girl."
