Note: This song contains prayers and songs which are sung during the rituals of the Festival of
Ganesh Chaturthi. This festival is a Hindu festival but it is celebrated among many religions
throughout India. During this festival which lasts roughly for a period of 2 weeks, the idols of each
and every size ranging from small to very large of Lord Ganesh (A Hindu Deity) are sculpted and
decorated. Then prayers are chanted everyday and these idols are worshipped. On the last day of
this festival, all these idols are then submerged in any nearby natural water body such as a river
or sea. And huge processions are carried out whilst these are taken from the Home or a place
where they were kept to the place where they are to be submerged. And in this processions people
sing prayers and shout out the phrases such as 'Ganpati Bappa Morya, Mangalmurti Morya'.
This literally means 'Praise the Lord Ganesha'. Although, it has a short story behind it. The word
Morya in it refers to a famous devotee of Lord Ganesh in the fourteenth century called Morya Gosavi,
from Chinchvad, near Pune, in India. This depicts the inseparable relationship between God and a
devotee. This festival is celebrated with pomp and show every year.
